Tseng Kwon Chi

 


Tseng Kwon Chi is a photographer that is well known for his self-portrait photographs in front of popular landmarks. The picture shown above shows Kwon Chi in London, United Kingdom. This picture showed him in his typical Mao suit, making him look very professional in every picture he’s in. What makes this photo very unique is that the tower behind him is the only thing in focus while everything else in the background as well as himself out of focus. 


All of Kwon Chi’s pictures have one thing in common: the fact that he’s always in it while wearing his Mao suit. Every picture I see seems like he has some sort of authority because of his suit like it portrays a sense of royalty, yet leadership. The addition of having popular monuments in the background gives the idea that he is royalty or a sort of leader, having to travel to many places. 

Tseng Kwon Chi is by far the most interesting self-portrait photographer when it comes to posing and fashion. The reason why is that every pose may seem normal, it gives it a little touch of authority with the suit he wears and the picture shown above is no exception.

In photography, one’s visual approach is unique to the individual trying to portray something. Color, angles, shapes, contrast, and other ways can illustrate a subject differently. A notable example of a visual approach comes from the work of Bill Armstrong.   Bill Armstrong’s work is truly fascinating. It heavily relies on color and is out of focus on   the subject and e nvironment . The visual approach that Bill Armstrong works with is blurred focus and color effects. Bill Armstrong primarily works on this since color provides a more lush and semi-abstract while the blurriness gives it a temporal feeling of the moment.
