Looking throughout Salgado’s work, he works primarily in black and white. As he stated, color photography both detracts and distracts from the subject as well as the information he wants to portray. The photo above Church Gate Station, Western Railroad Line, Bombay, India, 1995, is a great example of the use of black and white to show the environment in which these people are. A lot of his work focuses on this aspect of the environment and people, groups of people that have different cultures and lifestyles. Salgado does a great way of presenting this in his work.
Overall, the aspect of black and white in Salgado’s work is one of the best components of his work. The way he portrays the different lifestyles of individuals around the world is indeed beautiful. As someone who is fond of the different aspects of the world, whether landscape or culture, Salgado does an amazing job of portraying the proper view of many groups that people do not know about.
