Lee Friedlander
Lee Friedlander is known for using the “social landscape,” photographing parts store reflections, framed fences, posters and street signs. Friedlander specifically is known to primarily influence reflection photos, his popular photos are mainly reflection photos. So what is reflection photography? A reflection photo is when an object is reflected from a reflective surface, such as a mirror or window, due to light redirecting towards a certain subject.

Lee Friedlander has a major influence on photography, specifically his use of reflections and other components associated with city life. He does well to portray the chaos and unique lifestyle within the city through his use of reflections and other components of framing. Although he represents the chaotic life in a city, it also has a certain feeling when it comes to his work, although it may seem humorous, there’s a sense of mystery and feeling when it comes to seeing his sort of work. It is a unique way to illustrate it because all his reflection work is humorous, to me, but there’s a certain aspect that’s more invoking than just humorous; which I personally enjoy.
Lee Friedlander’s work with reflections is so interesting and unique due to the potential of creativity that comes from it. Reflection photography is an interesting form of photography since it seems simple but is more than that. Lee Friedlander, for example, is able to compose such humorous work through reflections that have a deeper meaning and complexity to them than shown. I think that’s the beauty of this type of work because illustrating a huge world through a reflective surface is intriguing and eye-catching to see.
