Jan Groover: Kitchen Still Life Series
In photography, there are many ways to illustrate artistic value in things, even from the simplest things. A genre of photography known as still-life primarily focuses on capturing artistic value in normal but random things. What is still-life photography? This genre focuses on capturing inanimate objects that are arranged creatively, providing a more surrealistic look to objects. This form of photography quite resembles a lot of art, such as paintings, that captures a whole new perspective of inanimate objects. Jan Groover specifically works in this type of photography but provides a different sense of the genre, giving many perspectives on the photos she captures.
Jan Groover is one of the best at portraying many objects in surrealistic and creative ways. Much of her work, including kitchen utensils, provides an alternative look at how we see these everyday objects. Throughout her work, she shows resemblance and inspiration to centuries of artistic painters by positioning such items to capture our attention in every aspect of the photograph. She has brought more interest to this genre, with her kitchen still life series illustrating a whole new perspective of kitchen utensils (as shown above). How she places objects and the angles she captures them brings a whole new perspective of utensils and other objects, which is amazing to observe. Jan Groover’s work is stunning, bringing surrealistic characteristics to simple everyday objects and bringing more attention to her work and the genre. It may seem simple work, but the way Jan Groover handles objects gives a new artistic view to anything; it looks easy, but bringing light to just the simplest form of object is an admirable task.
